MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT/ LIBERIA METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE (LMS) SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE LIBERIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY (LRCS)
The Liberia Meteorological Service (LMS) and the Liberian Red Cross Society (LNRCS) on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in strengthening early warning systems and improving community resilience across Liberia.
This Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for cooperation between the Ministry of Transport (MoT)/Liberia Meteorological Service (LMS) and the Liberian Red Cross Society (LNRCS) to strengthen early warning systems, provide weather-based training for Red Cross volunteers, improve community preparedness through timely, reliable weather and climate information.

The MoU specifically aims to: Facilitate the exchange of meteorological and climate data, particularly alerts related to floods, extreme rainfall, and heatwaves; Support the training of LNRCS volunteers and staff in interpreting and using meteorological information for disaster preparedness and early action; Promote joint planning and implementation of the LNRCS Climate Action Journey (CAJ) and other anticipatory actions; Foster coordination between both institutions to strengthen community-based disaster risk reduction (CBDRR) initiatives.
This agreement represents a significant milestone for the Liberia Meteorological Service as it continues to build partnerships with national and international organizations to advance climate services for informed decision-making.
The MoU will remain in effect until 2030.
