Liberia Meteorological Service Operationalises the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP)
The Liberia Meteorological Service has successfully operationalised the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), marking a significant milestone in the country’s progress toward strengthening early warning systems and safeguarding communities from extreme weather and climate-related hazards.

With CAP now in place, Liberia can issue standardized, timely, and multi-channel alerts that reach citizens, institutions, and responders more efficiently. This achievement directly supports national efforts under Early Warnings for All (EW4All), while also advancing broader adaptation priorities, climate resilience, and the delivery of high-quality climate services.
The operationalisation of CAP was made possible through recent digital transformation efforts, capacity development, and the deployment of tools that enhance warning dissemination, communication, and decision support. Liberia now joins a growing number of African countries modernising their systems to improve preparedness and reduce the impacts of disasters.
This progress represents a major step forward for climate services in Liberia—enhancing public safety, empowering communities, and supporting national development goals through improved access to reliable, actionable early-warning information.
