About Us
The Liberia Meteorological Service (LMS) is the national authority responsible for monitoring and forecasting weather, climate, and water-related conditions in support of public safety, national planning, and sustainable development. Guided by its mission to protect lives, property, and the environment, the agency provides accurate and timely meteorological, climatological, and applied services across sectors such as aviation, agriculture, energy, environment, health, and disaster management.
LMS has a mandate rooted in both national priorities and international obligations, to support early warning systems, climate adaptation strategies, and the coordination of Liberia’s engagement with global meteorological institutions. Through its dedicated technical directorates and specialized divisions, the Liberia Meteorological Service is committed to delivering reliable information that strengthens resilience and enhances socio-economic development across the country.

Our Organisational Structure
The organizational structure of the Liberia Meteorological Service is designed to ensure the efficient delivery of weather, climate, and hydrometeorological services across the country. The agency operates under the leadership of the Director General, who is supported by a Deputy Director General and an Administrative Board.
The Service is composed of key technical and administrative directorates, including:
- Directorate of Forecasting and Observations – Oversees weather monitoring, data collection, and real-time forecasting.
- Directorate of Climate and Applied Meteorological Services – Manages seasonal forecasts, climate data services, and sector-specific applications.
- Directorate of Research and Development – Focuses on innovation, modeling, and scientific studies to improve forecasting and risk assessment.
- Directorate of ICT and Data Management – Responsible for data transmission, digital infrastructure, and early warning systems.
- Directorate of Finance and Administration – Handles institutional budgeting, human resources, logistics, and general operations.
The structure also includes regional and county-level offices, which ensure service delivery and data collection at the local level. Each unit works in coordination to support Liberia’s resilience to weather and climate risks and fulfill national and international obligations.
