Agrometeorological Dekadal Bulletin-1ST DEKAD OF OCTOBER 2026
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE AGROMETEOROLOGICAL BULLETIN FOR THE FIRST DEKAD OF OCTOBER 2026
Rainfall
During the first dekad of October 2026, parts of Grand Cape Mount, Montserrado, and Margibi Counties recorded relatively high rainfall. However, parts of Maryland, River Gee, Grand Bassa, Bong, Gbarpolu, and Lofa Counties experienced lower rainfall, while moderate rainfall prevailed across other parts of the country. Nationwide, accumulated rainfall ranged from 59.0 mm to 207.2 mm.
Soil Moisture Index (SMI)
Soil moisture conditions were above normal across Liberia during the first dekad of October 2026.
Maximum Temperature
Maximum temperatures varied across the country, ranging from 26.3°C to 27.8°C. Relatively high temperatures were recorded in parts of Nimba, Bong, Rivercess, Grand Bassa, and Bomi Counties, while Lofa and parts of Gbarpolu, Sinoe, and Grand Kru Counties experienced relatively lower temperatures. Moderate temperatures prevailed elsewhere.
Minimum Temperature
Minimum temperatures ranged from 21.5°C to 25.7°C. The southern and central regions experienced relatively higher nighttime temperatures, while lower temperatures were recorded in the northern region.
Potential Evapotranspiration (PET)
Northern Liberia experienced relatively high potential evapotranspiration, associated with greater sunshine and atmospheric evaporative demand. The southern coastal region recorded lower evapotranspiration, while moderate levels prevailed across the central region.
WEATHER OUTLOOK FOR OCTOBER 2026
Rainfall
Rainfall is expected to decrease across much of Liberia during October 2026. However, Maryland, Grand Kru, Sinoe, and parts of Grand Gedeh, Rivercess, Montserrado, and Bomi Counties are expected to receive relatively high rainfall. Lower rainfall is anticipated in parts of Lofa, Bong, and Nimba Counties. Monthly rainfall totals are forecast to range from 270.4 mm to 643.7 mm.
Relative Humidity
Average relative humidity is forecast to range from 84.4% to 92.3%. Relatively high humidity is expected in Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Gbarpolu, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, and Lofa Counties, while comparatively lower humidity is anticipated in Margibi, Grand Bassa, Sinoe, Grand Kru, and Maryland Counties.
Maximum Temperature
Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 27.7°C to 30.8°C. Relatively high temperatures are anticipated in Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, Gbarpolu, and Lofa Counties, while lower temperatures are expected in Margibi, Grand Bassa, Rivercess, Sinoe, Grand Kru, River Gee, and Maryland Counties. Moderate temperatures are forecast elsewhere.
Minimum (Nighttime) Temperature
Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 21.9°C to 27.0°C. Relatively high nighttime temperatures are anticipated along the coastal region, including Maryland, Grand Kru, Sinoe, Rivercess, Grand Bassa, Margibi, Montserrado, Bomi, and Grand Cape Mount Counties. Lower nighttime temperatures are expected in Lofa and parts of Gbarpolu, Bong, and Nimba Counties, with moderate temperatures forecast elsewhere.
FARMERS' ADVISORY
As the cropping season gradually draws to a close, rainfall patterns vary across Liberia, with some areas experiencing declining rainfall while others continue to receive substantial amounts. These conditions may affect harvesting, crop storage, transportation, and agricultural production. Farmers and agricultural stakeholders are advised to take the following precautions:
Harvesting and post-harvest management: Monitor weather forecasts and plan harvesting activities accordingly. Dry harvested crops properly and store them in clean, dry, well-ventilated facilities to minimize spoilage and post-harvest losses. Keep farm inputs and equipment protected from moisture.
Crop pests and diseases: Regularly inspect crops for pests and diseases, as prolonged wet conditions may increase their occurrence. Adopt recommended crop management practices and use only approved pesticides when necessary. Consult agricultural extension officers before applying pesticides.
Livestock management: Provide livestock with safe, well-ventilated shelters, clean drinking water, and adequate feed. Monitor animals for signs of illness, heat stress, dehydration, or abnormal behavior. Seek veterinary assistance promptly when necessary.
Vegetable production and soil conservation: Vegetable producers are encouraged to cultivate on suitable upland sites where possible. Maintain appropriate field drainage and adopt soil conservation practices to minimize waterlogging, soil erosion, and nutrient loss during heavy rainfall.
Weather monitoring: Farmers are encouraged to follow regular weather updates and agrometeorological advisories issued by the Liberia Meteorological Services (LMS) and consult agricultural extension officers for appropriate farm management guidance.
Note: Farmers should seek advice from agricultural extension officers before using pesticides or implementing pest and disease control measures.
Summary: During the first dekad of October 2026, parts of Grand Cape Mount, Montserrado, and Margibi Counties experienced high amounts of rainfall. Nevertheless, parts of Maryland, River Gee, Bassa, Bong Gbapolu and Lofa Counties experienced less rainfall during the period, while moderate rainfall was observed across other parts of the country.
